Mike was brought up in Backwell and has lived all his adult life in Nailsea. He’s seen Nailsea grow from a village into the large town it is today.
Since his early twenties, Mike has been involved in the community of Nailsea, including helping to run a youth group and later serving as a Governor at Nailsea School for a good number of years, which included all the challenges involved in building and moving into the new school.
He is married to Sarah, who has worked for the NHS since she was 21 as an Occupational Therapist at Weston Hospital. They have two adult children, both of whom went through Hannah More/Grove Schools (where Sarah was a Governor) and Nailsea School through to 6th form (which included all Mike’s years as a Governor).
Mike has been an Independent Nailsea Town Councillor for 8 years, servicing the last 2 years as Chair, as well as the last 4 years as your Independent North Somerset District Councillor. In both roles, Nailsea has always been his priority. This dual role has enabled Mike to bring forwards things like the Clevedon Road crossing (due to start in the coming months), the weight and speed restrictions in the town centre to stop the large lorries using the High Street, and the coming improvements in the Station Road car park (again due in the next few months), amongst others. Mike has enjoyed encouraging the Council to connect more with the Community.
Working in the media and television since he was 21, starting out at the BBC, Mike’s work has taken him many places and he has seen life from all sides – from working in the slums of Delhi for a charity, to wandering the grounds of Highgrove and tea with Prince Charles… and has experienced all shades of life in between!
Mike has no political allegiance and only wants to work for the good of the town and its people as a whole based on the practical, not on a political agenda.
“I want to work for Nailsea and its people. The High Street and the heart of the town are within Yeo Ward, so as well as working for my constiuents, I want to help draw together the businesses of Nailsea to create a better future for the High Street and our town.”
